In Human Resources, sometimes we get bogged down in the stressful parts of our jobs, such as firing employees and ensuring employee paperwork meets current standards. So today, let’s focus on one of the fun parts of our job: appreciating great employees. No doubt most of your company’s employees, are friendly, intelligent, and do hard work for the company. Here are four great ways to celebrate these wonderful company contributors:
Create a culture where praise is normal. In Human Resources, take the time to publicly and privately compliment employees who did something unexpected or great. Encourage managers and employees to do the same thing with each other. This creates a positive, celebratory company culture.
Staff appreciation days. You don’t need to wait for Boss’ Day or Administrative Professional’s Day to have a fun day of celebration for the entire hard-working office. Take a day to decorate the Human Resource Office, offer treats and activities at lunch, and even bring in a speaker to provide an enriching and fun seminar.
Create “Employee of the Month” awards. Monthly employee awards are a great way to single out staff who did an exemplary, above and beyond job for the company. Have a small ceremony with a plaque to be displayed in the office, and get the employee a small reward such as a gift card. Send an email to the entire company honoring this employee.
Performance bonuses. Instead of using performance as a threat in the annual review, use it to reward employees who did a particularly excellent job in the last review period. Financial bonuses are a great way to motivate employees to work hard and make them feel appreciated by the company.
